When I go on vacation, I basically pack the contents of my medicine cabinet – and then some. I’m pretty sure I take it to “next-level” preparedness, but I would rather carry around items that I probably would only need in an extreme emergency, than risk an extreme emergency without them.
Reasonable? Probably not.
Prepared? Absolutely.
I’ve slimmed down my list of essentials that I bring on every vacation. Here are the top categories and items:
- Pain relief: Advil Extra Strength Liqui-Gels
or Tylenol Extra Strength
- Allergy medication: antihistamines and hydrocortisone cream
- Mini first aid kit: bandages in various sizes, alcohol wipes, gauze, medical tape, antibiotic cream and small scissors
- Sun protection: spf 30 sunscreen
- Stomach relief: Tums, Gravol, and Pepto Bismol
- Sanitizer: hand sanitizer
- Breath: gum or mints
I usually add a few essentials to this list for all-inclusive vacations, and those items would be:
- Sun protection: spf 60 sunscreen (for my husband) and solarcaine spray
- Random medication: cough drops, cold & flu tablets
- Bug Spray: bug repellant spray, anti-itch cream for bug bites
These items are specifically for “first aid”, but my toiletries list is actually much longer! I’m sure 10lbs of my suitcase is just my travelling pharmacy and toiletries, but hey – I prefer to be prepared.
