11 Free Things to do in Las Vegas

by The Average Tourist

Visiting Las Vegas doesn’t have to be an expensive trip if you do your research in advance. There are many inexpensive or free things to do in Las Vegas if you look for them. I had 5 days to explore Las Vegas (2 days with my husband and 3 days on my own) and found many free things to do!

Here are 11 free things to do in Las Vegas:

Las Vegas Sign

Visit the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign for an iconic photo to document your trip. There is often a long line at this attraction, so plan accordingly!

Fremont Street Experience

Make sure you visit Fremont Street in Old Las Vegas to take advantage of the free light show, concerts, live acts, weird costumes and general entertainment. There are plenty of things to do for free on Fremont Street and you can also see the original Vegas hotels that made this a popular tourist destination. If you like people watching, this is a great place to go.

7 Magic Mountains

The 7 Magic Mountains are an art installation on South Las Vegas Boulevard… really south. You will definitely need a car or transportation to get here, but the attraction is free. Try to visit early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid large crowds and hot afternoon sun.

Bellagio Conservatory

Visit the Bellagio to see the beautifully decorated conservatory. This is a great spot to take photos and look around. The hotel changes up the decor here a few times a year to align to the seasons – a beautiful sight to see.

Atlantis Show at Caesars Forum Shops

The Caesars Forum Shops has a free show for shoppers to watch – Fall of Atlantis. This show is a combination of animatronics, light, sound effects and video with water and shooting flames. It’s an interesting story and is located right in the shopping centre. A nice opportunity to take a break from the heat and fun for all ages.

Mirage Volcano Show

Sadly I didn’t get to record this, but you can watch the Mirage Volcano show right on the strip. It erupts a few times each night in the evening and is a great site to see.

Circus Circus Acrobatic Acts

At the end of the strip you can find some interesting (and free!) acrobatic acts at Circus Circus. There are different acts throughout the day including juggling, acrobatic acts and other circus style performers. I was lucky enough to see a very talented duo performing a foot juggling act.

Wynn Lobby

The Wynn Lobby has a beautifully decorated walk way. There are flower balls hanging from faux trees and decorated with twinkle lights. It’s beautiful in the day and in the evening when the lobby gets dark. Make sure you spend some time here and take a few photos of this beautiful attraction.

Flamingo Habitat

Visit the Flamingo Hotel to explore the beautiful Flamingo Habitat. There are birds, turtles, fish and (obviously) flamingos throughout the habitat. You can also see pelican feedings twice per day. It’s a great attraction for tourists of all ages.

Wander the Strip & People Watch

One of the best activities you can do for free in Las Vegas is wandering the strip, exploring the hotels and people watching. You can definitely see some interesting people in costume and performing along the strip. The hotels also often have activities and attractions you can see for free. Some of them are paid activities that you can watch for free – like the gondola rides at the Venetian, rides at NY NY, and the high roller.

Fountain Show at the Bellagio

One of the most iconic free attractions in Las Vegas would have to be the fountain show at the Bellagio Hotel. It’s a beautiful water show timed to different songs and happens numerous times during the day. You can view it from Las Vegas Boulevard, from surrounding hotels and even from the Eiffel Tower viewing deck. This one cannot be missed!

11 Free Things to do in Las Vegas Summary

You can certainly have a great time in Las Vegas without breaking the bank. Hopefully this list of free activities will help you plan a trip to remember forever! Check out some other activities you can do in Las Vegas besides gambling.

I’ve been to Vegas about 7 or 8 times. Some of these I knew about and some I haven’t. For example, I had no idea Circus Circus offers free circus acts. That;’s cool. I also had no idea about the Atlantis Show. Thanks for highlighting all of these. I’ll check these out next time I’m there.

I don’t gamble so Las Vegas has always been about watching Cirque du Soleil shows and eating at buffets! I’ve been to all of the free attractions that you listed except for the 7 Magic Mountains. Will need to add that location on a future visit.
