80+ Travel Blog Topics… Part 1

As a travel blogger, I sometimes find it difficult to narrow in on a travel blog topic for my next blog post. When that happens I refer to my ongoing list of travel blog topics. I’ve compiled a quick list of some ideas for fellow travel bloggers who may be faced with the ultimate dilemma: what should I write about!?

Below you will find the first 40-ish of my 80 travel blog topics (actually more, because some of them have multiple options for customization!) that range from serious to more conversational or fun. Some of these post topics I’ve used myself, and some of them don’t relate to me at all and never will! These are ideas I’ve collected over the last (almost) 2 years of blogging and continue to add to as I’m inspired by other bloggers, ideas from my own travels or through Google SEO searches. I hope this list of travel blog topics is helpful to you when you need a little motivation or inspiration. Planning Your Trip

1. Your favourite travel websites to book or research travel – I’ve shared my favourite travel websites here.
2. How far in advance to book a trip – do you prefer booking earlier or later, and why?
3. Tips for planning a family vacation – how to set expectations, select a destination and get along on vacation. I’ve posted about this here.
4. Tips for a couples vacation – how to plan a vacation for different interests, a romantic destination, adventure, etc.
5. Tips for a solo vacation – what does someone planning a solo trip need to know?
6. How to select your next destination – help fellow travelers narrow down their next vacation destination with tips, ideas or an opinion post.
7. Top 10 destinations for… share ideas for winter/spring/summer/fall travel, adventure, relaxation, luxury, culture, ecotourism, entertainment, places to see before they are gone, beach vacations, all inclusive resorts, foodies, etc.
8. Weekend getaway itinerary ideas – how to plan a weekend getaway, places near (insert city) that could be seen on a weekend etc.

Scoring the Best Travel Deals

1. Tips and tricks for booking the cheapest flights – do you have a great system to get cheap flights? Share it with your readers.
2. Finding all inclusive vacation deals – things people should know about booking an all inclusive to help them get the best deal.
3. Booking last minute vs. far in advance – is it better to book in advance or last minute to get a better deal?
4. Using travel credit cards or loyalty memberships for points – share details about loyalty programs that could help your readers maximize their savings, get free upgrades or even free travel.

Accommodations

1. How to get the best deals on accommodations – do you have a trick to get the best deals on your accommodations? Share it with your readers.
2. Hotel hacks – booking the best location, finding the best amenities at low prices, getting freebies etc.
3. The best/worst accommodation you’ve ever experienced – tell your readers a story that they can relate to or learn from.
4. How you select your accommodation – do you read reviews or tips from other sites? Share them in a blog post.
5. Hotel vs. Hostel – what’s your preference and why? Share with your readers, or tell them a story of your own travel experiences that has shaped your preference.
6. Hotel vs. Vacation Rental – same as above!
7. How to get upgraded/discounts at your hotel – do you ask for upgrades when you check in? How do you get discounted rated? Share your successes (or failures) in a post.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

1. Selecting your seat on a plane – best spot to sit on a plane or how to get cheap or free seat upgrades.
2. In-flight entertainment – what do you do to keep yourself busy or distracted on a flight? Are there items you must bring in your carry-on to survive a long or short flight?
3. When and how to book train travel for specific destinations – what are the best sites to book train travel, or is it better to book same-day? Share your experiences and tips.
4. Tips for traveling by train – train travel can be tricky to navigate, share your personal experiences, tips and suggestions.
5. Car rental tips, information for road trips – renting cars on vacation is a common thing, but share tips to help your readers get upgrades, navigate better or save time and money. I shared some tips for renting cars on vacation here.
6. Road trip itineraries – do you have a fantastic road trip itinerary? Share it!

Managing Your Travel Dollars

1. Creative ways to save money for your next vacation – help your readers think of new ways to save money for travel. I’ve shared some of my own tips here.
2. The best budget vacation spots – vacations don’t need to break the bank to be an amazing experience! Share some budget vacation destinations to help your readers maximize their travel money.
3. Managing money while abroad – tips or information on banking, stories, minimizing exchanging currencies etc.
4. Tell a story about a bad money decision you made while traveling – keep it high level or get into the details, help your readers learn through your mistakes.
5. Tips to keep your money safe on your travels – staying safe on vacation is very important, and keeping your money safe is important too. I’ve shared some of my own safety tips for vacation here.

Packing

1. Carry-on vs. Checking luggage – do you prefer to carry-on or check your luggage? I’ve shared my carry-on experience to help my readers decide.
2. Packing for different seasons – packing lists are an essential part of my travel preparations. Share packing tips for different seasons, climates, destinations, trip types, etc. I have an entire section of my blog dedicated to packing lists.
3. Talk about those items you never use when traveling but always pack – we all have them! This is a great light-hearted post that your readers can relate to and learn from.
4. Talk about the items you can’t live without on your travels – there are certain things we always travel with and cannot live without – share those with your readers.
5. Travel tech gear – talk about the items you need to have to fulfill your technology needs while on vacation. Here are my travel tech essentials.
6. Packing tips, hacks and luggage ideas – share any other tips or tricks you have when it comes to packing. Do you use a backpack only or like to pack in a suitcase. Share the pros and cons or your experience for why you choose this.

Cruising

1. Cruising tips, tricks and hacks – If you’ve been on a cruise, you know this is a different kind of vacation. Help new cruisers navigate by sharing tips or hacks. Here is my post on the pros and cons of cruising.
2. Things you must pack for cruising – what essential items do you need to specifically pack for a cruise? Here is my cruise packing list for reference!
3. Things you cannot take on a cruise ship – each cruise line has a long list of things that are not permitted aboard. Share your experience with things you learned you couldn’t take on a cruise and where you found the information.
4. How to get the most out of your port experiences – sometimes you only have a few hours in port, how did you maximize your time? Share these ideas with fellow cruisers.
5. Booking tours through the ship vs. local companies – there are pros and cons to booking on the ship versus locally, share some details on the excursions and how you book.
6. Are cruise drink packages really worth it? – Drinking aboard a cruise ship can break the bank! Share tips to get cheap drink packages, pay as you go or how to bring permitted drinks aboard. For reference, here’s a quick video about drink prices on Norwegian Cruise Line.
7. Specialty dining vs. included restaurants – Is it really worth is to dine in a specialty restaurant instead of the buffet or main dining room? Share your dining experience, reviews or tips for other cruisers.
8. Tipping on cruises – how does tipping on cruises work? Share your experience and suggestions to help future cruisers know about tip etiquette for their cruise vacation.
9. A first-timers’ guide to cruising – Go big! If you’re an experience cruiser you can share an ‘everything you need to know’ guide to cruising.
